The week's story
These are the GitHub repos that gained the most stars in week 43, from October 19 to 25. Most numbers are measured by us, from our own snapshots of October 19 and 25. One comes from GitHub's own Trending page. We count down the top five: what each one does, why it climbed, and whether you should try it. Then five more, and week three of our mystery repo.
Number five. OpenCode, with 5,921 new stars, as reported by GitHub Trending, on top of more than 215,000. It is the open-source AI coding agent, with more than a thousand contributors. It climbed the same week a breach of its paid Console hit 1.4 percent of Console users, whose saved AI keys ran up bills. The open-source agent itself was not the target. Verdict: try it, and keep your keys out of the cloud.
Number four. Matt Pocock's skills, with 6,555 new stars, on top of more than 296,000. Third week in our top five: the instruction files a well-known TypeScript teacher gives his coding agent. Verdict: try it, but read it first.
Number three. DeepSeek Harness, with 7,615 new stars, on top of more than 253,000. It is DeepSeek's own open-source agent harness, where everything is a plugin. More than 3,600 commits in a month, and still a developer preview. Verdict: try it, in a sandbox.
Number two. VoiceStudio, with 10,606 new stars. It is a local, open-source voice studio: voice cloning, voice design, dubbing and audiobooks. Number one in two of the last three weeks, and still near the top. Verdict: try it.
Number one. Cloudflare's security audit skill, with 15,812 new stars, five times last week's 2,989. It is a skill that turns your coding agent into a security auditor. Isolated agents map the code, hunt for bugs, and a fresh agent tries to disprove every finding before it is reported. It is the seed of Cloudflare's own vulnerability harness. The odd part: no commits in the last 30 days, and its blog post is from June. It jumped the week AI-found PHP bugs shook the web. We cannot prove the link. Verdict: try it, on your own code.
Also climbing this week: Impeccable, a design language for AI coding agents. ComfyUI, the node editor for image models. iFixAi, for auditing what your agents do. SolidCraft, a 3D CAD app in Rust that agents can drive. And ArtCraft, last week's number two.
And week three of our mystery repo. REA promises to reverse engineer anything with agents. On October 5 it had about 3,600 stars. On October 19, over 329,000. On October 25, over 385,000, with more than 96,000 forks. The climb is slowing: 56,000 this week, after 219,000 the week before. We still make no claim about what happened. A star is a bookmark, not a review.
So this week, security moved into the agent's toolbox, and coding agents held the chart. The full radar is at kargin-utkin.com.
*How this is made: stars, forks, commits, issues and releases are counted from GH Archive, the public record of GitHub events, for the Friday-to-Thursday window. Lists, courses and prompt collections are left out. Descriptions are each project's own. *
