GitHub Top 10, Week 40 of 2026
Partial data: GitHub's event log missed some days this week.
Sep 28, 2026 - Oct 4, 2026
The ten repositories that gained the most stars on GitHub in the week of Sep 28, 2026 - Oct 4, 2026, counted from GitHub's public event log. A star is a bookmark, not an endorsement: the commit counts and flags below show which ones people are actually building.
Where these numbers come from. Weekly stars here are GitHub Trending's own weekly figures (reported, not measured by us); repos created inside the week show their total.

The week's story
These are the GitHub repos that gained the most stars in week 40, from September 28 to October 4. We count down the top five: what each one does, why it climbed, and whether you should try it. Then five more, and one repo whose numbers do not add up. This week's star counts are GitHub Trending's own figures.
Number five. AIHOT, with about 5,900 stars, all of them this week, because it went public on September 28. It is the engine behind a Chinese AI news site: it collects sources, has a model score every item twice, groups stories about the same event, and writes a daily brief. The author says he is a designer, not a professional developer, and rebuilt it with AI. Then he open-sourced everything, including every prompt and every threshold. Verdict: try it, if you run a news or research feed.
Number four. OpenShell, from NVIDIA, with about 6,000 new stars. It is a runtime for AI agents that lets them read files, install packages and call APIs without handing them your whole machine and your secrets. It climbed in a week when agents breaking out of their limits were in the news again. Verdict: watch it. It is young, but it is NVIDIA, and it is aimed at exactly the right problem.
Number three. Paperclip, with about 8,700 new stars. It is the dashboard for running a team of AI agents like a company: goals, budgets and costs in one place. It was number five on our radar last week, and it kept climbing, with nearly 600 commits in a month. Verdict: try it.
Number two. Hindsight, from Vectorize, with about 10,600 new stars. It gives agents a memory that learns from past runs. Last week it was number three with about 4,900 stars. This week it more than doubled. Remember that its benchmarks are the company's own. Verdict: try it, if your agents keep relearning the same facts.
Number one. VoiceStudio, with about 14,700 new stars. It does what ElevenLabs does, on your own machine: voice cloning, voice design, video dubbing, dictation and audiobooks, in hundreds of languages. It also has a local API, so agents and scripts can use it. Nearly 1,900 commits in a month. Note that it is AGPL licensed. Verdict: try it, if you make anything with a voice.
Also climbing this week: iFixAi, for auditing AI agents. OpenRig, for building teams of coding agents. Impeccable, a design language for AI harnesses. DBX, a small database client for over a hundred databases. And HyperFrames from HeyGen, which turns HTML into video.
And one repo whose numbers do not add up. Agent Reach promises to give your AI agent eyes on the whole internet. It gained about 4,800 stars this week, and it has over 90,000 in total, but it shows one commit in the last thirty days. We make no claim about why. A star is a bookmark, not a review.
So this week, agents got a safe place to run, a memory and a manager, and voice went local. The full radar is at kargin-utkin.com.
*How this is made: stars, forks, commits, issues and releases are counted from GH Archive, the public record of GitHub events, for the Friday-to-Thursday window. Lists, courses and prompt collections are left out. Descriptions are each project's own. *
