YouTube has introduced several new features to its Shorts platform, bringing it closer to the functionality of TikTok. A key addition is the 'clear screen' mode, which removes icons, text, and other clutter from the video interface, providing a more immersive viewing experience. This feature is similar to TikTok's 'clear mode' and is designed to minimize distractions while watching videos. Furthermore, YouTube has replaced the traditional 'thumbs-up' button with a 'heart' icon, aligning more closely with TikTok's engagement mechanics. Users can now also watch Shorts at 2x speed by holding down the edge of the screen and lifting their finger to return to normal speed, or by locking the speed at 2x through the player settings. Another update allows for easier muting of videos by tapping the screen and selecting the 'mute' option. These updates reflect a strategic shift towards a more streamlined and engaging user experience, similar to that offered by TikTok. Notably, YouTube is also removing the 'dislike' button, instead encouraging users to provide feedback through the 'Not interested' and 'Don't recommend this channel' options. These changes underscore YouTube's efforts to refine its Shorts platform and enhance user interaction, drawing inspiration from successful features found on other social media platforms.
