Trump Administration Relaxes Restrictions on Anthropic's Cybersecurity Model

In a significant shift, the Trump administration has eased its stance on Anthropic's powerful cybersecurity-oriented models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5. Just two weeks after pulling these models from the market due to security concerns, the administration is now permitting Anthropic to make Mythos 5 available to over 100 US government agencies and companies. This decision also extends to non-American employees working for these organizations, including Anthropic's own international staff. According to a letter from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, the administration believes that sufficient safeguards are in place to allow trusted partners to access the Claude Mythos 5 Model. Notably, the directive does not address the release of Fable 5, a version of Mythos 5 that was initially released with additional protections. Anthropic has confirmed the development, stating that it has been working closely with the US government to restore access to both models. The company is now expediting the redeployment of Mythos 5 to authorized organizations, with ongoing efforts to expand access and make Fable 5 available for general use again. This move marks a pragmatic compromise, balancing national security concerns with the need for robust cybersecurity tools in critical infrastructure sectors.
