Seedcamp Expands US Presence with $320M Fund, Refines Investment Strategy

Seedcamp, a seasoned early-stage investor, has secured $320 million for its latest fund, marking a significant expansion of its US operations. This new fund, dubbed Fund VII, is the largest in the firm's 18-year history, doubling the $180 million raised for Fund VI in 2023. Notably, Seedcamp is allocating $220 million to early-stage investments through Seedcamp VII, while setting aside $100 million for growth-stage, follow-on investments via a new fund called Select. With existing offices in New York City and Miami, the firm plans to grow its US team to better connect its European portfolio companies with American customers and investors. Seedcamp's co-founder and managing partner, Reshma Sohoni, emphasized the importance of linking founders with key network nodes. The firm will maintain its investment thesis, focusing on pre-product, pre-revenue, or pre-traction startups, and leveraging its extensive network for deal flow. Seedcamp's portfolio boasts 12 unicorns among over 550 companies, with $1 billion in assets under management. The new fund aims to invest approximately $1 million in 100-120 startups, with follow-on investments in later rounds. In contrast, the growth fund will invest around $3-5 million per check, targeting Series B rounds and beyond. Limited partners in Fund VII include prominent investors such as British Business Bank, HarborVest, and Sofina, as well as 80 portfolio company founders who have contributed as angel investors. Seedcamp will continue to invest across sectors, avoiding capital-intensive businesses like mobility or marketplaces, and instead focusing on commercially driven investments.
