Russian School Team Wins International AI Olympiad for Third Consecutive Year

A team of school students from Russia has been named absolute champion at the International AI Olympiad (IOAI) for the third year in a row, according to Lenta.Ru.

The competition took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from August 2 to 7. In the final, which spanned two days, the Russian team competed against 465 students from 105 countries. Participants completed two individual rounds, each lasting six hours and containing three tasks.

The first round focused on audio processing, controlling robots in a virtual environment, and semantic word search. The second round involved adversarial attacks on computer vision models—modifying input data to influence model behavior—developing an algorithm to detect AI-generated text, and generating logo images for the Olympiad in various styles.

The Russian team secured seven gold medals and one bronze. One team member also became the overall winner of the IOAI. China took second place, and Poland finished third.

This was the third edition of the IOAI, and Russian students have won every year. The team was prepared by experts from the Central University and the AI Alliance.
