Robot Fight Club: Shenzhen Hosts First-Ever Humanoid Brawling Tournament

The world's first professional robot fighting league kicked off in Shenzhen on July 16, pitting 32 international teams against each other in a five-round slugfest. Organized by Chinese startup EngineAI, the Ultimate Robot Knock-out Legend (URKL) tournament uses a standardized platform: the company's full-size T800 humanoid robot. Teams control their machines freely, but each match allows only three timeouts and a maximum of five registered T800s per squad.

Scoring follows a multi-tier system. Winners are decided by round points, with ties broken by knockdown counts, rounds won, and total accumulated points. The tournament runs under strict professional rules, with each round lasting five minutes. This isn't just a spectacle, said EngineAI CEO Zhao Tongyang. It's a real-world testing ground for advancing humanoid robotics technology through competitive stress.

The global finals are scheduled from December 2026 through January 2027. The champion team will take home a 10-kilogram solid gold championship belt valued at roughly 10 million yuan (about $1.47 million). EngineAI hopes the URKL league will push the boundaries of what bipedal machines can do under combat conditions, turning what could be a novelty into a serious engineering proving ground.
