Revolut's Tech Stack Powers Record Profit Ahead of U.S. Expansion

Revolut isn't just moving money; it's proving its architecture can handle global scale. The London-based neobank posted a £1.7 billion pretax profit for 2025, a 57% jump driven by a technology-led operating model that now supports 68.3 million users.

For engineering teams, the real story lies in the infrastructure supporting this growth. Revenue hit $6 billion, with business banking contributing 16%, signaling robust backend diversification. Customer balances swelled 66% to $67.5 billion, demanding serious latency management and data consistency across 40 markets. CEO Nik Storonsky noted the tech-driven model is the engine behind these margins, setting the stage for the next phase.

Having secured a full U.K. banking license earlier this year, Revolut is shifting focus to the Americas. The company filed for a U.S. Bank Charter in March, a move that would unify regulatory compliance across all 50 states. This isn't just paperwork; it requires integrating lending and credit products into an existing high-throughput system without compromising uptime.

CFO Victor Stinga identified geographic expansion as the immediate priority. With a target of 100 million customers by mid-2027, the data engineering challenges will intensify. Mexico operations launched in January serve as a testing ground for this broader rollout. As Revolut transitions from startup to global bank, the pressure shifts to maintaining resilience while onboarding millions of new nodes to its network. The valuation sits at $75 billion, but the true test remains whether their stack can sustain hypergrowth under stricter U.S. regulatory scrutiny. Success here depends on automated compliance pipelines and real-time fraud detection at a magnitude few institutions have attempted.
