Physical Keys Return: Unihertz Titan 2 Elite Smashes Kickstarter Goal

In an era dominated by edge-to-edge glass, the tactile click of a physical keyboard is making a surprising return. At Mobile World Congress 2026, Unihertz unveiled the Titan 2 Elite, an Android device designed for professionals who prefer typing over tapping. The project hit Kickstarter this week, smashing its $100,000 target to raise over $2.1 million from 4,500 backers.

For engineers who live in terminals and text editors, the Elite offers more than nostalgia. The QWERTY keys are fully programmable for app shortcuts and complex text editing, while the keyboard surface doubles as a trackpad for precise cursor control. A dedicated side button can trigger custom scripts or launch specific workflows instantly. Under the hood, the standard model packs a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Pro version upgrades to the Dimensity 8400 and 512GB storage. Notably, Unihertz held firm at 12GB RAM despite soaring memory costs driven by generative AI infrastructure demand, a decision that slightly increased the unit price compared to previous generations.

Both units feature a 4.03-inch AMOLED display, global 5G connectivity, and expandable storage via microSD up to 2TB. Vital for long-term deployment in enterprise environments, the phones ship with Android 16 and promise security updates through 2031. Certification from the FCC and Google is expected by April, with mass production following in May.

Backers can secure the Elite for $396 with shipping estimated for June, or the Pro for $486 arriving in October. While flagship prices continue to climb, this niche device offers a focused tool for heavy typists at a fraction of the cost of an iPhone 17. It proves that even in 2026, physical inputs still hold value for specific workflows.
