Perplexity has rolled out its agentic Personal Computer tool for Windows, letting developers and data professionals turn their everyday workstations into locally run AI systems. The tool, already available on Mac since April, now operates as a digital worker that can read local files, interact with Office 365 apps, and browse the web — all from a single prompt. For data and ML engineers juggling spreadsheets, reports, and code snippets, this means asking the assistant to automate repetitive tasks without sending sensitive data to the cloud.
The company launched the tool on the heels of earlier integrations with Microsoft 365 and Teams in May. But the Windows version closes a critical gap: enterprise engineering work often happens on Windows machines where traditional AI tools can’t reach local files. Perplexity says the agent is designed for the messiness of real-world workflows — updating a CSV, drafting a proposal, or querying a local database — all while staying inside the Windows environment.
Security and data governance are front and center. Perplexity confirms that Personal Computer for Windows does not train on company data, and it prompts users before performing sensitive actions like sending emails or deleting files. The tool is available today for paying subscribers on the Max and Enterprise Max tiers, starting at $200 per month. For teams building ML pipelines or managing data workflows, this could mean a local AI copilot that keeps proprietary code and internal datasets under their control.
