OpenClaw Brings Its Open-Source AI Agent to Mobile Phones

The open-source AI agent that took the internet by storm earlier this year is now available as a mobile app. OpenClaw, the free automation tool built around a digital crustacean mascot, launched on iOS and Android this week, the company announced on X.

The app works by connecting your phone to the OpenClaw Gateway, a routing layer that links your requests to AI agents and the tools they use to execute tasks. Once paired, users can run their OpenClaw agents from their pocket—handling everything from coding to meal planning. Some early adopters have reported mixed results, but the promise is that properly programmed agents can be genuinely useful for getting things done on the go.

OpenClaw first went viral around the launch of MoltBook, a social media site that claimed to be entirely populated by AI agents. That spectacle later turned out to be partially staged by humans impersonating agents, according to researchers, who described it as effective theater that doubled as marketing. Despite the credibility hit, the stunt helped fuel the broader agentic trend. AI agents are now embedded across the industry and appearing in more places every day—including, as of this week, your phone.
