OpenAI has equipped its ChatGPT chatbot with a new capability: generating interactive, visual explanations for scientific and mathematical concepts. The update, which is live now for all users, allows the AI to produce dynamic diagrams for topics like the Pythagorean theorem or Coulomb's law. Users can then manipulate variables directly within these visuals, watching the results update in real time.
The company states the feature currently covers more than 70 core concepts, with plans to add more subjects. While accessible to everyone, OpenAI specifically highlights the potential benefit for high school and college students. This move builds on last year's introduction of a Study Mode, which was designed to help students work through problems rather than simply receive answers.
An OpenAI representative described the visual tools as an initial step, indicating a broader roadmap to develop more interactive learning aids within ChatGPT. The release reflects a continued push to position the chatbot not just as an information source, but as an adaptable educational partner.
