OpenAI Consolidates Product Teams Under Brockman as Agent Strategy Takes Center Stage

OpenAI announced another executive reorganization Friday, folding previously separate product lines into a unified platform architecture. Company president Greg Brockman now officially leads all product development, with a mandate to merge ChatGPT and Codex into a single agentic experience.

In an internal memo, Brockman outlined plans to “invest in a single agentic platform,” consolidating four engineering pillars under his direction. Thibault Sottiaux, former Codex engineering lead, will oversee core product and platform. Nick Turley, ChatGPT’s head, takes enterprise industries. Ashley Alexander, healthcare products VP, leads consumer verticals. Vijaye Raji, previously CTO of applications, manages infrastructure, ads, data science, and growth.

The restructuring follows last month’s changes when AGI boss Fidji Simo went on medical leave, leaving Brockman in charge of product strategy while CSO Jason Kwon, CFO Sarah Friar, and CRO Denise Dresser assumed business operations. The moves reflect OpenAI’s pivot from exploratory projects toward revenue-generating areas like coding and enterprise, ahead of a potential IPO and mounting investor pressure for profitability.

From a systems perspective, merging ChatGPT and Codex into one platform means unifying their data pipelines, model serving infrastructure, and API surfaces. This reduces operational overhead but introduces tight coupling between consumer and developer workflows. Brockman’s goal is to “bring agents to ChatGPT scale,” implying a shared inference layer that can handle both chat completions and code execution with consistent latency and cost controls.

Whether this flattened org chart accelerates delivery or creates new bottlenecks in the agent platform remains to be seen. For now, OpenAI is betting that architectural consolidation will let it outpace competitors in the agent race without getting bogged down by side projects.
