In a significant milestone for the application of machine learning in healthcare, the Moscow region's Ministry of Health has reported that an AI-powered assistant, AIDA, has helped doctors make over 1.7 million diagnoses. The assistant, which analyzes patient complaints, medical history, and diagnostic results, has been in operation since February and can identify 95 socially significant diagnoses. According to Maxim Zabelin, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Region Government and Minister of Health, the system works in parallel with doctors, providing a suggested diagnosis that can either confirm or contradict the doctor's own assessment. While the AI assistant plays a supportive role, the final decision on diagnosis and treatment always rests with the medical specialist. The deployment of AIDA is part of a broader effort to develop and integrate artificial intelligence in the region's healthcare system, which also includes a robot named Svetlana and a service for interpreting test results. By leveraging machine learning and AI, the Moscow region's healthcare system aims to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of medical diagnoses, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
