In a strategic move to optimize its cost structure, Lucid Group has announced plans to reduce its U.S. workforce by approximately 18%. This restructuring effort is expected to yield annualized cost savings of around $158 million, a significant step towards improving the company's financial stability. The decision also involves the elimination of the chief operating officer role, with Marc Winterhoff departing the company effective immediately. The workforce reduction encompasses full-time employees, contractors, and hourly production workers across various departments, including manufacturing. Additionally, Lucid will be discontinuing the second shift of production at its AMP-1 factory, a move that aligns with its goal of adjusting production levels to better match current demand. While the company anticipates incurring cash charges of around $32 million related to severance and employee transition, this restructuring is seen as a necessary step towards achieving long-term sustainability. The announcement comes on the heels of the company's decision to suspend its guidance and reevaluate its business operations under the leadership of incoming CEO Silvio Napoli, who is tasked with navigating the challenges of managing inventory levels and production capacity.
