Google's Search Assistant Now Listens and Responds in Over 200 Countries

Google's voice-and-vision search tool, Search Live, is now available to most of the world. The company announced the global expansion today, making the feature accessible in over 200 countries and territories and supporting dozens of new languages.

First launched in the United States last fall, Search Live lets users point their smartphone camera at an object or scene and ask questions aloud—like how to repair a bicycle tire or identify a plant. The AI assistant provides a spoken answer and can display supporting links.

This worldwide rollout is driven by a new, specialized AI model called Gemini 3.1 Flash Live. Google engineers built this model to process audio in multiple languages from the start, which they say allows for quicker and more fluid conversational responses compared to previous versions.

To use it, open the Google app on an Android or iOS device and tap the 'Live' button below the search bar. The feature is also integrated into Google Lens.

In a related update, Google is bringing the Translate app's real-time 'conversation mode' to iPhones. This allows for live speech capture and translated audio through headphones. The feature is expanding to several new regions including Germany, Japan, France, and the United Kingdom.
