Ford is introducing a generative AI system designed to simplify the complex job of managing commercial vehicle fleets. The new service, Ford Pro AI, integrates directly into the company's existing telematics software, analyzing real-time data from vehicles—Ford-branded or otherwise—to provide managers with clear insights and recommendations.
The tool appears as a conversational chatbot within the software. Managers can ask it to identify ways to reduce fuel costs, generate reports on specific vehicles, or even compose summary emails. Kevin Dunbar, general manager for Ford Pro Intelligence, emphasized the system's foundation in "accurate, manufacturer-grade vehicle data" to ensure reliability, noting its architecture is built to minimize errors.
This move reflects Ford's broader strategy to embed AI across its operations, from design to customer service. The company is offering the feature at no additional cost to its more than 840,000 Ford Pro telematics subscribers. It works with any connected vehicle, acknowledging the mixed-manufacturer reality of most commercial fleets.
Ford Pro communications manager Britta Farrow described fleet management as a demanding, detail-intensive role. "Ford Pro AI can handle a lot of the operational data processing—the stuff that burns out fleet managers," she said. The system currently operates in a read-only mode, requiring human approval for actions, a design Ford says is intentional to augment, not replace, managers. The underlying AI models were not disclosed, though Ford confirmed the service runs on Google Cloud infrastructure.
