Bank of Russia Trials Data Exchange for AI Model Development

The Bank of Russia is collaborating with a major Russian bank to test data exchange protocols, aiming to facilitate the development of artificial intelligence models, anti-fraud systems, and risk assessment tools. This pilot project is being conducted within the Central Bank's regulatory sandbox environment, allowing for controlled experimentation and evaluation. According to Anton Stepanov, head of the Central Bank's AI Expertise Center, the results of this testing will inform the development of regulatory proposals for trusted data intermediaries. The Bank of Russia has confirmed that the testing is underway, but has not disclosed specific details about the project at this stage. The initiative builds on a 2025 proposal by the Bank of Russia to establish trusted data exchange platforms, which received support from financial market participants. As the project progresses, the Central Bank will consider market feedback in shaping the regulatory framework for trusted intermediaries. The identity of the participating bank has not been disclosed, but several major Russian banks have been approached for comment on their potential involvement in the pilot project.
