Apple's Siri to Become a Concierge for Third-Party AI in iOS 27

Apple is preparing to open Siri to a wave of competing artificial intelligence services, according to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The strategy, expected with the iOS 27 release this fall, would transform the voice assistant into a hub capable of routing user queries to external chatbots like Google's Gemini or Anthropic's Claude.

The system, internally referred to as "Extensions," will reportedly let iPhone, iPad, and Mac users select which AI models they want Siri to access. This would function similarly to Siri's existing integration with OpenAI's ChatGPT, but with user choice at its core. The feature is also designed for a forthcoming standalone Siri app, part of a broader overhaul that aims to enable the assistant to perform complex, multi-step tasks across different applications.

This move follows Apple's announced partnership with Google in January to enhance Siri's underlying technology. That agreement, according to a separate report from The Information, also grants Apple access to Gemini for training its own, more compact AI models. The full scope of these integrations is likely to be a central topic at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, which begins on June 8.
