Apple Music is rolling out a new feature that puts AI-powered playlist creation directly into subscribers' hands. With the latest iOS 26.4 update, U.S. users with English language settings can now access Playlist Playground, a tool that generates custom mixes based on written prompts. Notably, the feature does not require a device equipped with Apple Intelligence, making it widely accessible.
The tool is integrated into the Apple Music app. Users can find it either through a highlighted card in the "Top Picks for You" section on the Home tab or via a new icon in the Library tab's playlist creation tool. The process is straightforward: describe the desired mood or genre—"rainy day jazz" or "high-energy workout," for instance—and let the system generate a list. Apple offers sample prompts to spark ideas.
A more advanced technique involves using metadata for refinement. After a playlist is generated, you can instruct the model to make edits, such as removing all songs released before a certain year. Manual tweaks are, of course, always an option. Finished playlists function like any other: they can be saved, downloaded, shared, and even played from an Apple Watch.
Currently in beta for U.S. English-language subscribers, Playlist Playground works on iPhones, iPads, and Apple Vision headsets running the 26.4 software, as well as on Android devices with the Apple Music app. According to Apple, the feature analyzes both popular trends and individual listening history, operating on the Apple Music service side—which explains its availability beyond the company's latest hardware.
