The U.S. Department of Commerce has cleared two advanced AI models from Anthropic—Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5—for international use, reversing earlier export restrictions. The company confirmed the news on Tuesday, marking a significant shift in policy that had previously locked down access to the cutting-edge systems.
The original controls, imposed over national security concerns, blocked foreign entities and citizens from using the models. Washington had flagged the potential risks of the technology falling into the wrong hands. Now, Anthropic says it will begin restoring access starting Wednesday and plans to release further details soon.
The move follows a June briefing where Anthropic executives walked Trump administration officials through their cybersecurity protocols. According to Politico, the presentation was part of a broader push to convince regulators that the models could be deployed safely. With the restrictions lifted, Anthropic can now resume global availability for its latest AI offerings, though the company has yet to outline a timeline for full rollout.
