Anthropic is giving its users more room to experiment. For a limited period, the company has temporarily doubled the usage limits for its Claude AI assistant during off-peak hours. The promotion, which runs from March 13 to March 27, automatically applies to nearly all user tiers—Free, Pro, Max, and Team plans—during a five-hour window outside of weekday Eastern Time mornings.
The increased capacity is available across Anthropic's ecosystem, including the main Claude chatbot, Claude Code, and its integrations for Excel and PowerPoint. This move expands on a similar holiday promotion the company ran last December, but now includes its free user base, signaling a push for broader engagement.
While Anthropic frames the offer as a gesture of appreciation to its community, industry observers note it follows a significant shift in the competitive field. Earlier this year, Anthropic was designated a supply chain risk by the Defense Department after declining to alter its AI's core safety protocols for military use. That contract subsequently went to OpenAI, a decision that spurred a notable migration of users to Claude and other platforms from ChatGPT. This temporary boost in capacity appears strategically timed to welcome and retain those new users.
