Anthropic reports fewer junior hires and more meeting time as AI reshapes its workforce

Anthropic says the makeup of its workforce and the nature of its work have shifted notably over the past year, according to a report the AI company published on Friday.

The share of junior-level employees in technical departments dropped from 21% to 14% since early 2025, and the proportion of junior technical hires fell from 27% to 9%. Technical teams also now account for a smaller slice of the overall workforce, down from 61% to 56%, which Anthropic attributes to the natural expansion of business functions as the company scales and to coding tools letting non-technical employees build software themselves.

Meeting time per employee is up 20% from a year ago, and up 16% for technical contributors, based on calendar data. Anthropic credits the importance of human trust and accountability, with employees repeatedly calling face-to-face coordination indispensable.

In an April 2026 survey, 27% of employees said Claude had made them more productive and 20% said their job had shifted from doing work to managing Claudes. The report suggests human attention and judgment are becoming a bottleneck as Claude produces a deluge of text to read and organize. Anthropic says AI adoption has brought more code per person, more sales per rep, and more contracts processed, while acknowledging that more code does not necessarily mean better code or business impact, though it has found no signs of declining quality.
