Anthropic has given Claude’s voice mode a significant refresh, rolling out support for its most powerful AI models and expanding language capabilities. The update, announced Thursday, means your spoken chats can now tap into Claude Opus and Sonnet—previously only the lighter Haiku model handled voice. That shift allows for deeper, more nuanced conversations without the clipped responses that often came with the faster but less capable Haiku.
The upgrade also introduces seamless model switching mid-conversation and the ability to toggle between voice and text without starting over—a practical touch for anyone who’s been deep in a spoken discussion and suddenly needs to shift to quiet typing. More notably, voice mode now works with third-party tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, and Canva. You can tell Claude to reschedule a meeting or summarize urgent emails simply by speaking, making agentic actions feel more natural.
Language support has expanded to include French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and two variants of Spanish and Portuguese, on top of English. You’ll need to manually ask Claude to switch languages—either by voice or through menus. The beta rollout covers mobile, desktop, and web, with free users limited to the Haiku model and one connected tool, while paid subscribers get full access to Opus, Sonnet, and all integrations. Anthropic notes that usage counts toward standard plan limits.
