Anthropic has confirmed a long-circulating rumor: it is building its own hardware to run Claude. The company is hiring a custom silicon team, with job listings for a senior engineer, a silicon engineer, and a technical program manager. A spokesperson confirmed the plans to Business Insider and TechCrunch, while adding that Anthropic will keep a multi-chip approach and use hardware from other companies alongside its own designs. Earlier reporting from The Information had suggested Anthropic was considering Samsung as a manufacturing partner. Anthropic joins rivals already pursuing custom chips: OpenAI recently introduced its Jalapeño chip with Broadcom, Google has long used its own hardware, Meta has deployed its own chips, and Mistral is reportedly exploring the same path.
