Amazon Blocks Meta's Muse AI Agent From Shopping on Its Site

Amazon has cut off Meta's newest AI agent from its online store, according to GeekWire. Shoppers trying to use Meta's Muse on Amazon now see a message stating that "continued access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use, to which our customers have agreed."

Amazon said it first asked Meta to keep its site out of Muse's reach voluntarily. A spokesperson argued that third-party apps making purchases for customers on other businesses' behalf should operate openly and respect whether those providers want to take part.

Meta rolled out Muse earlier this month, describing it as a secure, private personal AI agent that helps with people's goals and suggests ideas. It can fill out forms, send emails, and shop using a single-use card generated by Link by Stripe.

Amazon is reportedly unhappy that Muse doesn't identify itself while browsing its site, and believes the agent raises privacy and security concerns, including access to and retention of customer information.

Meta disputes that characterization, saying in its Muse announcement that the agent can't see people's passwords or payment methods, and that any credentials users share go into secure storage so Muse can use them without viewing them. Engadget has sought comment from both companies.
