MOSCOW, March 17 – When you share personal details with an AI assistant, you might be sharing them with more than just the algorithm. Vladimir Zykov, an IT expert and editor-in-chief of Runet.News, warns that sensitive information entered into chatbots often remains on developer servers.
"Data from conversations is typically stored and processed automatically," Zykov explained to NEWS.ru. "In some cases, employees may review excerpts to check system quality or label content. This means anything you type into a chat window could, under the wrong circumstances, be accessed by malicious actors."
The core issue, he notes, is that no system is perfectly sealed. Even with strong data protection policies, leaks can occur through hacking or configuration errors. Zykov advises extreme caution when considering sharing passport details, credit card numbers, login credentials, medical records, or confidential corporate documents with any AI platform.
A significant behavioral problem compounds the technical risk. Many users now perceive neural networks as personal confidants, sharing intimate life details without a second thought. "Any information given to these platforms can become part of a user's digital footprint," Zykov emphasized. "If circumstances turn unfavorable, that footprint could be exposed or exploited by third parties." The expert's message is clear: treat conversational AI not as a private diary, but as a powerful tool that records its inputs.
