Microsoft will introduce its Gaming Copilot AI assistant to current-generation Xbox consoles before the end of the year, the company confirmed at the Game Developers Conference. Sonali Yadav, Xbox's product manager for gaming AI, stated the feature will also expand to other player services.
The assistant, already in testing on the Xbox mobile app, Windows 11, and the Xbox Ally handheld, allows players to use voice commands to ask for in-game help. It can suggest strategies for difficult boss fights, explain crafting requirements in games like Minecraft, analyze a user's play history, and recommend new titles.
While Yadav did not specify the exact console models, the current-generation lineup consists of the Xbox Series X and Series S. This launch occurs under new leadership for Microsoft Gaming, with Asha Sharma, formerly head of AI development for enterprise teams, now serving as CEO.
The announcement comes as Microsoft prepares its next hardware initiative, Project Helix. This forthcoming platform, not expected to reach alpha testing until 2027, is designed to play both console and PC games. It represents the first major Xbox project developed entirely after the departure of former division head Phil Spencer and former president Sarah Bond.
