In a move set to reshape daily data tasks, Anthropic has deepened Claude’s hooks into Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. The update, released Wednesday, allows the AI to maintain a single, persistent conversation thread across both applications, effectively ending the tedious copy-paste cycle between spreadsheets and slides.
For data engineers and analysts, this means Claude can directly ingest data from an open Excel workbook and channel it into a PowerPoint presentation, all within a unified session. The context persists, so instructions or queries don’t need repeating. Anthropic illustrated the flow with a financial analyst building a report, where data analysis in Excel seamlessly fed chart creation in PowerPoint without tab-switching or manual transfer.
A more significant development is the direct integration of Claude Skills—reusable, automated workflows—into the Excel and PowerPoint add-ins. Teams can now codify a complex data transformation or reporting sequence into a one-click Skill, making sophisticated, repeatable operations accessible to less technical colleagues. Anthropic is providing a starter kit of pre-built Skills for common Office tasks.
The shared context and Skills features are now live for all paid Claude subscribers on Mac and Windows. This integration represents a concrete step toward fluid, application-aware automation for data workers, moving beyond chat and into integrated execution.
